My father got a computer when he retired as part of his retirement package. The idea was that he continued to do some consulting work in his own time at his own speed. Some of this work required that he be online.

Fairly soon his computer was filling up with spy-ware and popups, even with expensive anti-virus and firewall software. His computer was slowing down and eventually it got to the point of being unusable. He had no idea how to fix it and local computer repair centers were unreliable and expensive.

It's great to see the freedom both my parents get from involving themselves with online comunities. They are probably more active now than before they retired.
